William Reese, a rare book and art dealer, has pledged$100,000 to
Yale University to digitize its collection of 220,000 maps, including 15,000 maps of North America from before 1850. Yale has agreed to match the donation which it says will not only bring its collection of maps in to the modern age but will also provide a record of its collection, some of which suffered the effects of E. Forbes Smiley’s visits. No word yet on whether the collection will be made accessible online.
