Today’s Vancouver Sun carries a rather wistful recollection of the “good old days” of road maps when they were once pieces of “consumerist art.” It goes on to say “Sad days have befallen the noble road map, however. Once works of art, bursting with travellers' optimism, tourist bureau enthusiasm and corporate oil company pride, today's pale spectres provide us with little more than stock photographs, easy-to-follow directions, estimated time between cities and an egalitarian listing of roadside attractions.”
