Tom Patterson of the U. S. National Parks Service, has produced a digital elevation set of the world using
SRTM30 Plus and publicly available bathymetry data. The result is a dataset that he’s called
CleanTopo2. “In CleanTOPO2, manual editing to the elevation data itself has removed many of the bathymetry artifacts. Until the day arrives that improved bathymetric data are released by the scientific community, CleanTOPO2 offers a stopgap solution for those creating maps and related graphics.” Patterson goes on to explain some of the edits and provides examples of before and after edit images. Data is in tif format, is about 68 MB in size and
is available to download for free.
